Dear Dr. Pittenger,
I am writing to request official permission to reprint Transcriptions 87a, 89a, and 91a from The First Five Minutes in an anthology of literary essays I have edited. The transcriptions appear in Robin Behn's essay "Notes on Notes: Punctuation in Poetry," in which she discusses the complexity of notating human speech with conventional punctuation.
The anthology is under contract with Writer’s Digest Books (F+W Publications) and will be published in a trade paper edition with a print run of 8,500 copies. The publication date is December 2008 and the book will cost $16.99. I am seeking nonexclusive world rights.
Please note that 100% of the royalties from the sale of this anthology will go to the Vermont College of Fine Arts Student Scholarship Fund. Neither I nor the authors of the essays will receive any payment for our work. I will be responsible for permission fees and I would appreciate it very much if you would consider waiving or reducing your permission fee.
